The primary reports used in the literature may be verbal, but in the vast\u00a0majority of cases reports are written documents. The types of scholarship may be\u00a0empirical, theoretical, critical\/analytic, or methodological in nature. Second a\u00a0literature review seeks to describe, summarize, evaluate, clarify and\/or\u00a0integrate the content of primary reports.&#8221; (My emphasis)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">A\u00a0review of relevant literature is almost always\u00a0a standard chapter of a thesis or\u00a0dissertation, though sometimes mini literature reviews may be integrated through several chapters. This less\u00a0common approach may be found, for example, in some <a href=\"https:\/\/www.neuro-memento-mori.com\/teaching\/2015\/09\/26\/thesis-structure-compilation-based\/\">thesis structures based around three published peer-reviewed papers. This compilation based structure for a thesis<\/a> is more common in some science disciplines. The literature review is\u00a0an important chapter as it\u00a0provides the background to, and justification for, the research undertaken\u00a0(Bruce 1994). Bruce, who has published widely on the topic of the literature\u00a0review, has identified six elements of a literature review. These elements\u00a0comprise a list; a search; a survey; a vehicle for learning; a research facilitator;\u00a0and a report (Bruce 1994).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Cooper, H.M. (1988).
